What Are PDO Threads?

PDO (Polydioxanone) threads are ultra-thin medical-grade sutures that were developed in the 1970s. Research has shown that PDO relaxes muscles and tendons while the body's natural foreign body reaction causes increased blood flow and oxygen to the treatment area, stimulating the production of new collagen in the tissues by a process called neocollagenesis. PDO threads have also been shown to stimulate Elastin and Hyaluronic Acid production. Collagen and elastin are responsible for the skin's tensile strength and elasticity, while Hyaluronic Acid adds moisture and plumpness to the skin for a more youthful appearance.

There are many brands and types of PDO threads available on the market. We use only Miracu® PDO threads, which are the only threads on the market that are FDA-cleared for both the thread and the thread delivery method. The PDO thread procedure enhances the immediate results from Botox® and Juvéderm® and stimulates collagen for visible results lasting up to 24 months.

Types of Miracu® PDO Threads

  • Collagen Building only Threads - These are commonly referred to as "Mono" threads and are excellent to use in the lips, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds. This is a "delayed gratification" treatment that builds collagen over time. These threads have minimal downtime.
  • Lifting & Collagen Building Threads - These are the immediate gratification threads! You will see the lifting of the face at the time of the treatment. This is best used in the mid-face, lower face, neck, and brow. These threads are more intense and will require some adjustments to your daily regimen for 2–3 weeks while the body adjusts to the threads.

Physics of PDO Threads

It's all about the Vectors! Threading really puts physics into action. Each client will be assessed throughout the process to make sure that each thread is placed at an angle that maximizes the lifting and collagen production.
